How To Remove LinkedIn Connections?

It’s a well-known fact that if you want to expand your professional network online, you have to rely on making linked connections.

These connections open a door of possibilities for you that help you in your job hunt by increasing the probability of success.

You can find new people you’ll do business with in the future or just follow people to gain knowledge over specific topics that will accelerate your growth or give you new business ideas.

However, there are times when people do not need these connections; in fact, they may become a nuisance or a hurdle, and so removing them becomes a priority to help streamline your network.

An example of this might be someone constantly spamming your feed with sales pitches or other endorsements that hinder you from seeing the real important stuff for your business growth.

So, as I was removing someone from my LinkedIn network, I had a spontaneous idea about making a step by step guide to help other people facing the same problem.

By following this step by step guide, you’ll not only end the nuisance of being constantly bombarded from unwanted sales pitches, but you’ll also be more in line with LinkedIn’s network size requirements (this is only an issue if you have 30,000 or more connections).

A step by step guide of removing unneeded LinkedIn connections

Removing connections on your PC

Remove the connection through the person’s profile page

Starting from the most straightforward way, if you’re already on the profile of the person you want to remove, you can do that by simply clicking the “More” button on the right top of the profile page. From there, you can select the option of ” Remove connection.”

However, even if you’re not on the person’s profile and don’t know their name, it is still possible to remove them from your LinkedIn network. This method can only work if you can at least recognize the person’s name or photo.

Remove the connection through the connections page

Below are the steps you should follow to remove a connection from your LinkedIn network:

  1. Log into your LinkedIn account (if you already aren’t logged in)
  2. Go to the top toolbar and click on “My Network.”
  3. On the left-hand sidebar, click of “Connections.”
  4. From here, keep scrolling till you recognize the person’s name or profile photo.
  5. After you’ve found the person, click on the three dots right next to their name, and then click on the “Message” button.
  6. Click on the “Remove connections” options.

This process will remove the connection from your LinkedIn network.

Removing a LinkedIn connection through the mobile app

Like the app’s desktop version, the mobile app allows you to remove the connection either through their profile page or the connection page.

Remove the connection through the person’s profile page

The method of removing the person is pretty similar to the desktop app version. If you know the name of the person you want to remove from your network, just type the top search box’s name to get their profile.

Then press the three dots next to their name and select the ” Remove connections” option. Then confirm your decision by tapping the ” Remove connection.”

Remove the connection through the connection page

To remove the connection through the connection page on your mobile app, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. Log into your LinkedIn account (if you already haven’t).
  2. Go to the bottom toolbar and click on the connections icon. Then select the “View connections” option that will appear at the top of the screen. In case the top of the screen shows “My communities” instead of “View connections,” tap it and then click on “Connections” in the next menu.
  3. Now the work is pretty simple, scroll through the list of connections until you find the person you want to delete. When you find that person, click on the three dots right next to their name and then select “Remove connection.”
  4. To delete the connection, tap the “Remove connection option in the pop-up window.

So, in essence, removing someone from your LinkedIn network is pretty simple. You can remove that person either through their profile page or through the connection page.

The connection page option is for when you don’t remember that person’s name. The method of removing a connection is quite similar for both desktop apps and smartphone apps.
